This policy explains how Acute Academy uses cookies and similar technologies on acute.academy, the Moodle learning platform and related online services.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on a device when a website is used. Similar technologies may use local storage, pixels or device identifiers. Cookies can support security and login, remember preferences, measure performance or enable third-party content.

2. Essential cookies

Essential cookies are used where necessary to provide a requested service, including website security, load balancing, login sessions, student-account authentication, Moodle sessions, form operation, fraud prevention and remembering cookie choices. The site may not work correctly if these cookies are blocked.

3. Preference and functionality cookies

These may remember settings such as language, display preferences, login choices or accessibility preferences. Where they are not strictly necessary, they should be used only in accordance with the consent controls presented to you.

4. Analytics cookies

We may use privacy-conscious analytics to understand page use, errors, traffic sources and programme interest. Where applicable law requires consent, non-essential analytics will not be activated until consent is given. This policy does not authorise advertising profiling.

5. Embedded and third-party services

Course and website pages may include or link to YouTube or Vimeo videos, Google Play, WhatsApp, Moodle and other services. Those providers may receive technical information or set their own cookies when content loads or you interact with it. Their privacy and cookie policies apply to their services.

6. Typical cookie duration

Session cookies normally expire when the browser is closed or the session ends. Security and preference cookies may remain for days or months. Moodle “remember me” or login cookies may persist for the period shown at login. Where analytics is enabled, its retention is configured to a proportionate period and reviewed regularly.

7. Managing cookies

You can use the site’s cookie settings where available and can also delete or block cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may prevent login, enrolment or course access. Withdrawing consent does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.

8. Do Not Track and advertising

Browser “Do Not Track” signals are not implemented consistently across the internet. Acute Academy does not sell personal information and does not use this policy to permit behavioural advertising. If advertising technology is introduced, this policy and consent controls must be updated first.
